  • Does Apex Legends have cross progression on PS4, Xbox One, Switch & PC?

Apex Legends is playable on multiple platforms, including consoles, PC, Switch, and Mobile. But, with so many places to play, cross-platform progression is a big request from players. So, is cross-progression available for Apex, and can you transfer your progress, skins and content?

Since Apex Legends is now gracing everything from Steam to the Nintendo Switch, cross-progression is becoming more and more desirable. Cross-play is already available between all platforms – but cross-progression is not.
Cross-progression lets you connect your Apex Legends account across different platforms, rather than having an account on PC for example, that is separate to your account on console. Cross-progression allows you to seamlessly access unlocked content from one device to the next, so you don’t have to start a new account for each.

Apex Legends players are still eager for this feature, so, here’s everything we know about the potential for cross-progression in Apex.

Is there cross-progression in Apex Legends?
Right now, cross-progression is not available for Apex Legends between PC and Console.
However, players on PC do have cross-progression on the PC platform alone. If you originally played Apex on Origin, you can link your account to Steam account and carry your progress over. Similarly, you can carry your progress from previous console generations (e.g. PS4 to PS5).

But, the same cannot be said for cross-progression between PlayStation 4/5 and the Xbox lineup of consoles, nor Nintendo Switch. There is no way to transfer your Apex Legends account between these different platforms. This is unlike Apex’s competitors Warzone and Fortnite, which have full cross-platform progression.

Respawn said the reason for this is because was “easier (to implement cross-progression) with Steam because it’s at launch,” unlike merging saves between Xbox and PlayStation accounts seeing as “users may have multiple accounts to merge or use,” according to former Game Director Chad Grenier.
This is a glaring omission for one of the most popular battle royales on the market. And it isn’t lost on the developers, either.

When is cross-progression coming to Apex Legends?
Cross-progression in Apex Legends is coming in 2022, according to Respawn.
Respawn has touched on the topic of cross-progression in Apex Legends on a number of occasions, and confirmed that Apex Legends will have cross-progression in future.

But, as of the start of Season 13, there is still no update on when cross-progression will be added.
Cross-progression development was actually delayed in 2021 due to a series of hacks on Titanfall and Apex Legends, according to Grenier. In a Reddit AMA in August 2021, though, Apex Legends’ former director of communications Ryan K. Rigney noted that cross-progression is coming “next year” (2022).

“Cross progression is gnarly as hell in terms of being a problem to solve,” he explained. “It’s not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms. Different regions have different laws. It’s a mess. But we’re working on it, and we’re committed to delivering it.”
Apex Legends producer Josh Medina reiterated in a tweet in December 2021 that cross-progression is “in progress” and should be arriving sometime in 2022.
