  • [PS1] Parasite Eve

Basically, what you should know about Parasite Eve : RNG RNG RNG

There's a lot of randomness about everything, enemy patterns, stats, items. There's also 2 random chests throughout the run where you need to get the right items (respectively, a tool in Central Park and the Micro-UZ in the hospital) and if you don't get them...well, reset

The game is overall pretty fun, I still think there's some improvements to be made, I managed to find some even if the TAS and Puwexil (another Parasite Eve streamer) did a lot of the work.

What you need to see :

Parasite Eve multi-segment done by Puwexil 2:25:17 Gametime : http://speeddemosarchive.com/ParasiteEve.html
Parasite Eve SS TAS done by nfq in 2h48 Gametime : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm77VCkf_do

I managed to get a 3:09:20 Realtime ( http://www.twitch.tv/dreamboum/c/2844338 ) on this game today, I'm really happy with it even though it doesn't mean anything since it's on emulator and loading times seems to be way faster (I think it's nearly 1sec more for each battle loading which it's huuuge). The RNG was pretty nice and I managed to get some good splits at the end when I managed to deal with all of the inventory stuff more efficiently. I don't think I would ever be able to do sub 3h10 on console but as soon as I get my recording device, I would definitely try it. The run is overall pretty solid.

Now for the complex stuff since it seems that some people are into the game as well :

I'm also thinking about some new ideas, why not adding some elemental effects to the Micro-UZ ? I thought about adding acid, the TAS is doing the same thing but it's kind of a detour in the sewers to get the M203-3 and you maybe don't want to deal with the bats any further (it's like 5 screen away from the M870) but it may really improve some of the fights. If it don't, I thought about the frost effect (that you get with the M79-3 dropped by the Giant centipede) who would really be efficient against the dinos who are weak against it. The downside is that there's not that many dinos so it may not be that useful, but it would maybe help to gain some time if I keep my parasite energy for the energy shot for some other pterodactyl or maybe some nasty lizards. Then again, I know that the frost effect would be useless against some enemies but it seems that that the other enemies in the museum doesn't seem to be immuned to frost. There's also the problem of slots but I don't think it would be a huge deal until you get the M8000. From them, you can replace it with double command since Frost/Acid would be completely useless after that since boss aren't affected by it.

I figured that I can gain some time by just firing a energy shot after 2 hits at the second phase of Spiderwoman and it would save even more time because since you can fire it from anywhere, you might aswell do it at the place Aya is supposed to stand when Spiderwoman goes through the roof. You just have to manipulate the movement of the boss just a bit to make everything perfect. I still struggle to manipulate the movement of Sheeva so I don't get hit so much with the lazer beam but it's seem to be kinda difficult to pull off. There's also some glitchy stuff in the subway, when you need to back to the museum, you need to climb the platform when you are still on the rails but I somewhat managed to make Aya go into the platform without having to go through the climbing animation. Unfortunately, it seems that you can't do much with it since she doesn't hit the screen transition trigger but I'm actually trying to find a way to make it work (even if it's not really important, it only saves like 3 seconds lol). I can't think of any other improvements, I can maybe try to see if taking the chance to steal a super tool from spiderwoman would be really worth it but I need some more testing.

Also, I'm actually really happy to run this game, it's way too much fun even if I get mad a lot against all the RNG stuff, it's really nice to run a game and trying to figure out some improvements. I'll publish my notes really soon for those who wants it.

Since I'm bored and I saw that some people was really interested to do a PE1 run in LZH, I just did this in a few hours : https://github.com/Dreamboum/Speedru...iteEvenotes.md

I'm also thinking of doing a complete speedrun guide with all the mechanics but this would take more than a few hours.

That is a really well put together guide man, I might use the same online tool whenever I get around to posting the steps I've laid out for FFX.

P.S I'd love to see a run of this game as I've never even played it myself :P

Haha, thanks. The tool I use to make my guide is Markdown pad, very easy to use and it's really cool to take some notes !

I'm done with this game for some time but I might do it in a few days just to test out new strats. You can also check the multi-segmented run by Puwexil
