Update: Changes To VODs On Twitch

Our goal at Twitch is straightforward: deliver the highest quality video. This includes the ability to watch video on demand (VOD) on all of our platforms, not just the website.

In order to create a system that supports live and VOD across the globe and on multiple platforms, we need to make significant changes to the way we’re currently storing video. Today, we’d like to discuss what these changes are, why they’re necessary, and how they benefit the entire Twitch community now and in the future.

New Twitch Video Manager:

How to Prepare for These Policy Changes

• Use the new Video Manager to highlight the content you love so it will be saved indefinitely.
• Export past broadcasts you want to save to YouTube. Note: Past broadcasts will be exported in 2-hour segments.
• We will remind you regularly over the next three weeks of the impending changes so you’re prepared.

"We’ve partnered with Audible Magic, which works closely with the recorded music industry, to scan past and future VODs for music owned or controlled by clients of Audible Magic. This includes in-game and ambient music. When music in the Audible Magic database is detected (“Flagged Content”), the affected portion of the VOD will be muted and volume controls for that VOD will be turned off. Additionally, past broadcasts and highlights with Flagged Content are exportable but will remain muted."

So you can still stream with music etc if want, but all audio if the VOD after stream will be removed correct?

I almost always stream with music when on PC so it kind of kills the idea of highlighting much on twitch for me, and if they go much further I may have to reconsider streaming my PC stuff on twitch or at least how I do it.

Blocking original video game music is not on purpose and will be fixed.

The International clips were muted due to crowd noise and a different bug we've fixed.

Now we default store 14 days (60 for partners) with triple storage, which is equivalent to 42 days of single-storage (technically more due to the 60 day partners) which is 10x what we were storing by default before (4 days).

That's where the math goes wrong...in order to extend the default storage time substantially (which we believe is an important and valuable change), and do triple storage, we can't afford as much unwatched video being saved indefinitely.

It effects licensed in-game music but not original in-game music. Sorry we weren't clearer.
